Finding True Love
Never settle. I have a very vivid memory from when I was home for a few months after college graduation and before moving to California where I was working as a bartender in our small Ohio town. An older gentleman at the bar asked about my love life and such – bar talk, you know. He said to me…”it is too bad that you will never find a man to treat you as good as you deserve”. I looked at him in shock (and no this wasn’t a pickup line – lol) and stared him straight in the eyes as I reassured him with the upmost confidence that I would most certainly find that man. I had no fears and knew I wasn’t ever going to settle. I knew in my heart my worth and what I deserved. I wasn’t about to settle for anything less. That conversation stuck with me over the years and I was thankful enough to find that guy shortly after arriving to California. Granted, it took almost 4 years before we were official but I knew in my heart he was the one from very early on and wasn’t settling for anything else.
We were fortunate enough to be friends and ultimately become best friends before dating. We got to know each other on a different and honest level as friends from the beginning. Neither of us were putting up an act or trying to appease the other with some fake façade. We saw each other at our worst and our best. We have known each other for 15 years, dated for 5 years, and today we celebrate our 6th wedding anniversary. I honestly could not be more in love. It is amazing how you can truly grow closer with each passing day. It feels like each day my heart expands to love even more. I am so blessed as I found a man that treats me as I deserve. A man that can do anything! He is the perfect combination of superman and a knight in shining armor (and I’m not even exaggerating).
I felt it important to share as there is most certainly someone out there that will treat you like the queen you deserve to be treated. It is possible! Our cynical modern day society doesn’t think little girls should read fairy tales or depend on a man for anything. I depend on my husband for so so so much and guess what, it feels damn good!
I know my self-worth and don’t discredit any of my value because my husband helps me to be a better person. Life is short, your time is precious, don’t settle.
